Christine Middleton is CCP’s Partnership Officer for people with long-term conditions. The post works across Leicestershire and Rutland and for people with all long-term conditions and in Leicester City for people with neurological conditions.
To briefly introduce myself, I joined CCP as a Partnership Officer at the beginning of March last year. Prior to joining CCP I had been working in local government for 24 years, mainly as a social worker but over the last few years as a team manager of a social work team. I have worked with many different service user groups including people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and older people both in the community and in hospital. However my most recent work has been with people with physical and sensory disabilities.
I have really enjoyed working at CCP over the last year and feel that I have learnt a great deal about the voluntary sector and have been able to get involved in some very useful work.
In April this year, the remit of my post has changed to cover Long-Term Conditions. This means that in addition to voluntary groups that work with people with neurological conditions, I will also be working with groups that support people with the following conditions:
Diabetes, Chronic Kidney Disease, Strokes, Arthritis and Rheumatology, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Chronic Heart Disease.
I will be working with Voluntary and Community Sector groups to enable them to engage in the planning process with the statutory sector and to ensure that they are involved in the commissioning and delivery of social care services for disabled people. In particular I will be focusing on the White Paper for Adult Social Care (Our health, Our Care, Our say) and the National Service Frameworks for Long-Term Conditions. I will continue to work with the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Neurological Alliance, which is a strong and active group.
As part of that work I have been involved in arranging several Roadshow events across the county which have promoted the quality and diversity of the services provided by the voluntary and community sector for people with long term conditions. The next Roadshow will be on 24 September 2008 between 2.00 and 4.30 pm. at:
The Council Chambers
